CD40 receptor associated protein p23

This 23 kDa cell surface protein (p23) is associated specifically with the CD40 receptor complex on B-cells and on urinary bladder transitional carcinoma cells.

p23 shows no homology to any known protein. In contrast to another intracellular protein binding to CD40 (CD40BP = LAP1 = CRAF-1), p23 is not associated with the p80 receptor for TNF (CD120b). These findings suggest that p23 is a novel member of the CD40 receptor complex.
