[choline acetyltransferase development factor; ChAT development factor] abbr. CDF (a term with multiple meanings). This 22 kDa anionic factor is produced by muscle cells and induces the synthesis of choline acetyl transferase in several human neuroblastoma cells lines that show cholinergic and adrenergic characteristics (McManaman and Crawford, 1991).
CDF synergizes with bFGF, which has been shown also to possess CDF activity. The factor does not influence the expression of tyrosine hydroxylase and is not a mitogen for these cells (Rabinovsky et al, 1992). CDF also promotes the survival of motor neurons
