[CXCL12-abundant reticular cells] This cell type is found in the bone marrow (see also: hematopoietic stem cell niche). They have the appearance of reticular cells with many cytoplasmic extensions and express CD106 (VCAM-1) and high amounts of the chemokine CXCL12. Tokoyoda et al (2004) have reported that these cells are a small population of stromal cells, scattered throughout bone marrow and located some distance from the cells expressing IL7. Multipotent hematopoietic progenitor cells are attached to the processes of CXCL12-expressing cells and very immature B-cell
