[Chimaeric antigen receptor T-cells] These cells, sometimes just called CARs, are patient-derived, genetically modified T-cells that express an artificial construct consisting of a synthetic T-cell receptor targeted to a predetermined antigen expressed on a tumour, which these modified cells directly recognize antigens in an MHC-independent manner.
The term armored CAR T-cells, called TRUCK T-cells or TRUCKs by Chmielewski and Abken (2015), refers to CAR T-cells modified further to optimise their performance. These cells are modified to permit inducible or constitutive secretion of active cytokines
