This cell surface protein has been identified by Damsky et al (1983) as a protein of 12k kDa on MCF-7 human mammary carcinoma cells. The serum-free medium of these cells also contains a shed variant of the protein as a glycoprotein of 80 kDa. An antiserum against the protein disrupts cell-cell interactions in murine mammary tumor epithelial cells and .
