[C-end Rule peptide]
abbr. CendR peptides. This term refers to a number of cell-penetrating peptides initially identified by phage display library screening (Teesalu T et al, 2009). These peptides are characterized by a C-terminal arginine (or rarely lysine) residue, usually in a consensus context R/K XX R/K. There is a strict requirement for C-terminal exposure of the C-end Rule peptide sequence. An internal R/K XX R/K can be exposed and switched on by a cleavage by a protease. C-end Rule peptides bind to the neuropilin-1 receptor on target cells and are internalized.
Teesalu T et al (2009) have reported that the interaction of the C-end Rule peptide; RPARPAR with neuropilin-1
