Brichos domain

[Brichos domains]

This protein domain of approximately 100 amino acids has been identified in several previously unrelated proteins that are linked to major diseases such as dementia, respiratory distress, and cancer (Sanchez-Pulido et al, 2002). The acronym refers to three genes in which the domain was observed originally: BRI protein (associated with familial British dementia), chondromodulin-1, and surfactant protein C.

In some instances, the conserved Brichos domain is located in the propeptide region that is removed after proteolytic processing. Sanchez-Pulido et al (2002) have proposed that the Brichos domain may be involved in processing and maturation of the corresponding proproteins.

Johansson et al (2009) have reported that the Brichos domain in the proform of surfactant ... ... ... ... ... Subscribe to continue reading! ... ...
