[blast colony-forming cell]
abbr. CFC-B or CFU-B [colony-forming unit blast; blast colony-forming units]. A type of immature hematopoietic progenitors (see: hematopoietic stem cells) in normal bone marrow that yields colonies of blast cells after extended incubation (see also: Colony formation assay) (Leary and Ogawa, 1987; Wright and Pragnell, 1992; Nakahata and Ogawa, 1982). These colonies also contain progenitor cells and produce secondary colonies on replating that contain multilineage hematopoietic cells (see also: hematopoiesis). Metcalf (1998) has proposed that blast colony-forming cells be termed pre-progenitor cells
