Beta-lactoglobulin

gene name: LGB [lactoglobulin-beta]; abbr. also Beta-LG. This protein is synthesized in the mammary gland and is secreted in the milk of ruminants and some nonruminants (cattle, sheep, goat, horse, donkey, domestic water buffalo, mouflon, pig). The protein is the primary component of whey. For sequence information see: Braunitzer et al, 1973; Jamieson et al, 1987; Alexander et al, 1989. The protein is highly homologous to PP14 [placental protein 14].
