Bactrocerin-1

Bactrocerin-1 (VGKTWIKVIRGIGKSKIKWQ) has been identified in the oriental fruit fly, Bactrocera dorsalis and is thought to play a role in innate immunity (Dang et al, 2009). It is a basic, amphipathic alpha-helical and Lys/Ile/Gly-rich antimicrobial peptide with sequence homology to coleoptericin A and rhinocerosin. Bactrocerin-1 is active against Gram-positive bacteria (Staphylococcus aureus, Bacillus subtilis, and Bacillus pumilus). Weak antibacterial activity is observed against Gram-negative bacteria (Pseudomonas aeruginosa and Ralstonia solanacearum). The peptide also shows antifungal activity against Aspergillus niger, Fusarium culmorum, Fusarium oxysporum, and Penicillium digitatum. No hemolytic activity is observed at various ... ... ... ... ... Subscribe to continue reading! ... ...
