[B-cell translocation gene-2; BTG family member 2] This human gene (Duriez et al, 2002) encodes a protein with antiproliferative functions and cellular responses to DNA damage (see also BTG family). Kamaid A Giráldez (2008) have reported BTG2 expression patterns in avian embryos from embryonic day 1 to 3. BTG2 is expressed in the neural plate border, presomitic mesoderm, trigeminal placode, and mesonephros. BTG2 is co-expressed with BTG1 in the myotome, epibranchial placodes, and dorsal neural tube.
BTG2 is involved in the regulation of G1/S transition of the cell cycle by inhibiting Rb function (Rouault et al, 1996). BTG2 is identical with TIS21
