BNLF2a

[EBV BNLF2a; Epstein-Barr virus BNLF2a protein] This Epstein-Barr virus gene has been identified as an early EBV lytic cycle gene by Hislop et al (2007). The encoded protein of 60 amino acids plays a role in immune evasion as an immunoevasin. It causes cell surface HLA class 1 down-regulation. Expression of BNLF2a in epithelial cells and B-cells reduces the level of CD8(+) T-cell killing almost to background levels, The protein prevents CD8(+) T-cell recognition of many lytic cycle antigens by disrupting antigen presentation (Hislop et al, 2007; Horst et al, 2009). This is achieved by inhibiting the peptide transporter associated with antigen processing (TAP ... ... ... ... ... Subscribe to continue reading! ... ...
