[B-cell growth factor-1] This particular factor, called originally BCGF [B-cell growth factor], subsequently renamed BCGF-1, is identical with IL4 (Swain et al, 1983). For some aspects of nomenclature see also: BCGF (B-cell growth factors) and BCDF (B-cell differentiation factors).
This B-cell growth factor synergizes with anti-Ig in the proliferation of normal splenic B-cells but has no activity when dextran sulfate is used instead of anti-Ig to costimulate the same source of B-cells. This B-cell growth factor also fails to directly stimulate BCL1 tumor B-cells.
