[Atypical urothelial cell]
abbr. AUCs. This term is used by histologists/pathologists screening cells found in urine for the presence of urothelial cancer cells. The term atypical cells reflects diagnostic uncertainty and may fall short of classification of "suspicious" and may refer to degenerative changes where the nature and degree of atypia cannot be explained, or to other changes (see also: Decoy cells).
