[Asparaginyl-tRNA synthetases]
This enzyme (EC6.1.1.22 in the enzyme nomenclature catalogue) plays a critical role in translation by charging tRNAs with the cognate amino acid (see also: tRNA synthetases). The enzyme is known also as Asparagine-tRNA Ligase (approved gene symbol NARS), abbr. also AsnRS.
Role as moonlighting protein
Apart from this role, the synthetase has another functions and thus can be regarded as a member of a growing group of proteins referred to as moonlighting proteins.
