[Arias-Stella cell]
this term refers to a kind of hyperplastic hypersecretory atypical endometrial cells observed during pregnancy. These changes are seen usually in the endometrium during the gestational period and puerperium. (Arias-Stella, 2002; Thrasher and Richart, 1972).
Toki et al (1997) have concluded that the Arias-Stella reaction may be the result of the regenerating and proliferating activity of endometrial glands. Under certain circumstances (ectopic pregnancy, outside the setting of pregnancy or in older patients) these cells may be confused with clear cell carcinomas (Ohkawa et al, 1977). The two types of cells can be distinguished immunohistochemically (Vang et al, 2004). It may be difficult also to distinguish between Arias-Stella cells and cells
