Arenavirus nucleocapsid protein

also: Arenavirus Nucleoprotein, Arenavirus Protein N. This protein is encoded by one of the two negative-stranded RNAs that constitute the genome of the enveloped RNA viruses Arenaviruses. Nucleoprotein N is produced abundantly during infection and is the major structural component of the nucleocapsid. It binds to viral RNA is involved in transcription and replication by the viral polymerase and in virus budding.

Apart from its role in the life cycle of arenaviruses, Nucleoprotein N has been reported to modulate host immune responses and to promote immune evasion through different pathways.
