also: Apoprotein E. Approved gene symbol: APOE. Apolipoprotein E is a member of the family of soluble apolipoproteins (Hatters et al, 2006; Weisgraber, 1994). Rall et al (1982) have reported the complete amino acid sequence of human Apolipoprotein E. It is a 34 kDa polypeptide of 299 residues. In humans, Apolipoprotein E exists in three major isoforms, (apoE2 [Apolipoprotein E2] (gene allele often referred to as APOE*2 or Apolipoprotein E epsilon-2 allele), apoE3 [Apolipoprotein E3] (gene allele often referred to as APOE*3 or Apolipoprotein E epsilon-3 allele), and apoE4 [ ... ... ... ... ...
