Aplysianin P has been isolated from the purple fluid of the sea hare Aplysia kurodai (Yamazaki et al, 1989). The protein has been shown to lyse tumor cells but does not lyse normal white cells or red blood cells. Aplysianin completely inhibits the syntheses of DNA, RNA, and protein by tumor cells. The factor also prolonged the survival of mice bearing syngeneic MM46 ascites. The protein appears to be different from antineoplastic glycoproteins aplysianin E and aplysianin A.
