This hormone is a decapeptide (APSDPRLRQF) derived from the aminoterminus of the prohormone of somatostatin. The decapeptide corresponds to preprosomatostatin(25-34), which is the same as prosomatostatin(1-10) (Benoit et al, 1987). The hormone of unknown activity has been identified in extracts of rat gastric antrum and circulates in the bloods. In rats and humans antrin is found in the D cells of the gastrointestinal mucosa (Rabbani and Patel, 1989). Antrin is present in the same secretory granules as somatostatin-28(1-12) and detectable in one-third of all secretory granules (Ravazzola et al, 1989).
