Antimicrobial peptide P18 (KWKLFKKIPKFLHLAKKFamide) is an alpha-helical salt-resistant antimicrobial peptide designed from a hybrid consisting of cecropin A and magainin-2 (Shin et al, 2002). The peptide shows strong antimicrobial activity against several antibiotic-resistant bacterial and fungal strains (Candida albicans, Trichosporon beigelii, Aspergillus flavus and Fusarium oxyspovrum), is salt-resistant, and devoid of hemolytic activity (Lee et al, 2004). Reversed peptides (Rev-1 and Rev-2) of P18 have similar antimicrobial activity against bacterial and fungal cells (Lee et al, 2002)
Nan et al (2008) have reported that the peptide, but not magainin-2, shows anti-inflammatory
