Alivin 2 |

||
This protein contains seven leucine-rich repeats, one IgC2-like loop and a transmembrane domain. Expression of Alivin 1 depends on neuronal activity. In cultured cortical neurons gene expression is inhibited when their spontaneous electrical activity is blocked by tetrodotoxin. Overexpression of Alivin 1 in cerebellar granule neurons has been shown to inhibit apoptosis induced by the medium containing 5 mm KCl. Survival of granule neuron in a medium containing 23 mM KCl is inhibited by antiserum against Alivin 1 or by addition of the soluble putative extracellular domain of Alivin 1, suggesting that Alivin 1 promotes depolarization-dependent survival of granule neurons.
The protein has been identified independently as DEGA
