This protein is encoded by the nonessential E3 early multi-gene transcription unit in the genomes of various serotypes of adenoviruses. Tollefson et al (1991) have referred to Adenovirus E3 10.4K/14.5 kDa protein as RID [Receptor Internalization and Degradation]. It is a heterodimer (Tollefson et al, 1991), containing two proteins of 10.4 kDa and an O-glycosylated protein of 14.5 kDa (Krajcsi et al, 1996). Both proteins are cytoplasmic membrane proteins (Stewart et al, 1995) and become phosphorylated in cells infected by adenoviruses (Krajcsi et al, 1996). The protein is involved in the interaction of the virus with the host immune system.
Carlin et al (1989) have shown that the E3 10.4K/14.5 kDa protein downregulates the cell surface expression of EGF receptors in virus-infected cells. E3 10.4K/14.5 kDa protein also inhibits
