This protein of 11.6 kDa, called also Adenovirus E3 11.6 kDa protein (E3-11.6K), is encoded by the nonessential E3 early multi-gene transcription unit in the genomes of various serotypes of adenoviruses. Adenovirus Death Protein is expressed at late times during a lytic infection of species C adenoviruses. It promotes the release of progeny virus by accelerating the lysis and cell death of the host cell (Tollefson et al, 1996, 1996) and has been shown to be required for lytic infection of human lymphocytes (Murali et al, 2014).
The N- and O-linked glycoprotein is unrelated to any cellular or viral protein implicated in regulating apoptosis
