[Ancylostoma ceylanicum macrophage migration inhibitory factor] This protein is secreted by the parasitic nematode Ancylostoma ceylanicum (hookworm) and plays a role in parasite survival and disease pathogenesis.
The protein shows overall structural homology with MIF, binds to the MIF receptor that has been identified as CD74, and possesses tautomerase activity (see also: D-dopachrome tautomerase). The activity of the factor is not inhibited by small molecule inhibitors known to affect the mammalian factor. Ace-MIF thus displays significant differences in the tautomerase sites.
