[antimicrobial peptide derived from IGFBP5] This disulfide-linked 22 residue amidated peptide (AVYLPNCDRKGFYKRKQCKPSRamide) has been described by Osaki et al (2011). The peptide is derived from IGFBP5 [Insulin-like growth factor binding protein-5] and corresponds to IGFBP5[193-214]. The peptide is identical at the amino acid level between human, mouse, rat, pig, and cow. The peptide has been shown to occur naturally in rat brain and intestine and may act as a defense peptide.
