[African swine fever virus A224L] A224L is a member of the inhibitor of apoptosis (IAP) protein family encoded by the African swine fever virus ASFV (Chacon et al, 1995). It is a late structural protein. Overexpression of A224L in Vero cells substantially inhibits the activity of caspase-3 and cell death by apoptosis induced by treatment with TNF-alpha and cycloheximide or staurosporine (Nogal et al, 2001). Rodríguez et al (2002) have reported that A224L protein induces the activation of NF-kappa-B in infected cells. The NF-kappa-B inducing activity is abrogated by an I-kappa-B kinase-2
