7SL RNA

7SL RNA (Ullu et al, 1982), known also as 7L1a, RN7SL, RNSRP1, is encoded by the RN7SL1 gene. 7SL RNA is thought to be the common ancestor of so-called Alu RNAs encoded by Alu elements, an abundant class of middle repetitive DNA sequences that probably originated from duplication of the 7SL RNA gene (Ullu E and Tschudi, 1984; Kriegs et al, 2007). 7SL RNA is a long non-coding RNA of 301 nucleotides that is a component of the host signal recognition particle, a cytoplasmic ribonucleoprotein complex that mediates cotranslational insertion of secretory proteins into the lumen of the endoplasmic reticulum (Ullu and Weiner, 1984). The RN7SL1 gene is transcribed by RNA polymerase III ... ... ... ... ... Subscribe to continue reading! ... ...
