63 kDa tumor necrosis factor inhibitor
This biochemically uncharacterized factor (63 kDa by gel filtration) was isolated from the conditioned medium of the human cell line, THP-1-S (monocytes), cultured in a serum-free medium. The factor does not react with antibodies against TNFR55 or TNF75, the subunits of the TNF-alpha receptor (see also: CD120a, CD120b).
The factor blocks the binding of TNF-alpha to its receptor and also inhibits the cytotoxic effects of TNF-alpha. Expression of the receptor for TNF-alpha on the cell surface of L-M-2D6 cells was not downregulated in response to this inhibitor.
