A gene expressed specifically in cells in response to human interferon (see: IFN). The protein encoded by this gene has an unknown function and is expressed in most cell types. At least seven genes (or possibly pseudogenes) homologous to this cDNA are present in the human genome. They map to chromosomes 1, 2, 4, 9, 11, 20, and X.
The sequence of the 6-26 cDNA is identical with human thymosin-beta-4 (see: Thymic hormones) (Clauss et al, 1991).
