This antigen is recognized by a monoclonal antibody of the same name. It is expressed on all hematopoietic lineages. Granulocytes show a higher density than monocytes and lymphocytes. The antigen is present on peripheral blood lymphocytes, but is expressed poorly on different lymphoid cell lines of T-cell and B-cell origin.
This antigen is involved in signal transduction in lymphocytes. Cocrosslinking with CD3 inhibits the normally observed calcium mobilization. Crosslinking of CD148 alone is also able to induce an increase in intracellular calcium. This increase is abolished in the presence of genistein and by cocrosslinking with
