14 kDa beta-galactoside-binding lectin

the cDNA for this lectin has been cloned by Abbott and Feizi (1989) from a hepatoma cell line and by Hirabayashi et al (1989) from human lung. The derived amino acid sequence is identical with that of the 14 kDa lectin from human placenta (Couraud et al, 1989). 14 kDa beta-galactoside-binding lectin and 14 kDa lectin are identical with Galectin-1, encoded by the LGALS1 [galactose-specific soluble lectin 1] gene.
